Dear Friends and Family:

This is the first family newsletter of the Eric and JoElla Pratt family. Previous years we had never considered it because as just a couple we were afraid that we might be just a little boring. Since Wallace has been born, however, life has been infinitely less boring.
2010 has been a great year! Most of this last year has been spent awaiting Wallace’s arrival and we have had some wonderful experiences because of it. Most of it was spent working at our individual jobs and occasionally our hobbies, for JoElla it was doing crafts. JoElla has shown an amazing gift in her sewing and quilting abilities and has continued to grow with each project. I think in total, she has made about fifteen quilts and blankets in the past year as well as putting together dresses, skirts, pillowcases and other sewing projects. This next year will hold even more projects I am sure. Most of Eric’s time is spent at work and school, and every moment in between is with JoElla and Wallace. Eric has attempted to enter into the writing world a little more this past year, though it has been a little slow going, I do have a few ideas and projects in the works that I think are headed in the right direction. But enough about us, lets move on to the one you really want to hear about.
On August 5th of this year, JoElla gave birth to our son Wallace Joshua Pratt. It is interesting to think of the phrase “to give birth” in Portuguese, for it is “dar a luz” which means “to give the light”. I think that “light” describes exactly what Wallace has, and what he has given to our home. He is tall and skinny, his clothes fit him for 3.423 weeks on average (that measurement is exact by the way), he has dimples when he smiles, and a lip that he will protrude when he is sad that makes us melt every time. Wallace will wake up at about 7:00 A.M. every morning with a smile on his face that lights up our own smiles, and he is ready to play and giggle for the day. Whenever he gets in his car seat to go somewhere he has specific rules, conditions and limited patience that we must adhere to and follow with exactness. He will play and be happy so long as the car is moving, once we hit a red light, a stop sign or a slow driver he loses it and lets us know that we need to step on it. His FAVORITE part of the day is bath time where he will kick and wiggle for about thirty minutes, and afterwards be extremely happy until it is time to go to bed. The mere thought that he might miss something while he is sleeping just aggravates him to no end. Eventually he does come around to the idea of sleep and will sleep peacefully though the night (and yes I did say that he sleeps through the night…lucky us!). Every day he does something new and unique and shows us what a wonderful baby he is. We look at him with love and eagerness to see his development, so I think that you could say that Wallace “gives the light” to our lives.
As far as other events go…well we may have missed them with all the excitement that surrounds Wallace. Oh well, maybe I can tell you about how we survive a tiger and ninja ambush next year, but I think that they saw how cute Wallace is this year and decided to slink away in shame. Well it has been great filling you all in on our lives with our very first family newsletter. We thank you for all the baby gifts that many of you have given, and the love and support which you have all given.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
